Set in North-Eastern great plains, the Raimona National Park is the sixth national park in Assam. Declared a National Park in June 2021, the park is located in the Kokrajhar district of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) of the state. This pristine wilderness is a part of the greater transboundary Manas Biosphere Reserve, sharing borders with Bhutan’s Royal Manas National Park. Spanning 422 square kilometers, Raimona National Park is characterized by lush forests, flowing rivers, and rolling hills. It serves as a vital corridor for wildlife movement between Bhutan, Assam, and Arunachal Pradesh. The park’s flora is dominated by dense forests, bamboo groves, and grasslands, featuring key plant species such as sal trees, orchids, and dwarf bamboo.

Raimona’s thriving wildlife includes numerous rare and endangered species. It is a critical habitat for the endangered Golden Langur, a major highlight of the park. Other notable fauna include Asiatic Elephants, Royal Bengal Tigers, Clouded Leopards, Indian Bison (Gaur), Hornbills, and the critically endangered Pygmy Hogs. With over 150 species of birds, including migratory ones, the park is also a birdwatcher’s paradise.

Main attractions within Raimona include the Golden Langur Habitat, offering unique opportunities to observe this endangered primate. The picturesque Sankosh River, which flows through the park, creates stunning landscapes and supports aquatic biodiversity, making river walks and streams a must-see. Wildlife safaris, available as jeep safaris and guided walks, provide excellent opportunities to spot rare wildlife. Birdwatching enthusiasts will find the park a haven, with frequent sightings of species like the Great Hornbill, Wreathed Hornbill, and Malayan Night Heron. The Raimona National Park is accessible via several transportation options from its nearest airports Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma Airport at Rupsi (approximately 100 km) and Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati (approximately 220 km). The nearest railway station  to the park is Kokrajhar Railway Station (53 km). You can also visit the park by road, as Raimona is well-connected from Kokrajhar, with regular buses and taxis. It is also accessible from Rangpur, Siliguri, and Guwahati. The best time to visit is between October and April, when the weather is pleasant and wildlife sightings are frequent. Visitors should avoid the monsoon season.

Note: The park operates with specific timings, which is in morning from 6:00 AM to 11:00 AM and afternoons from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. It remains closed during the monsoon season (June to September) due to the rainy season. The ticket prices for the park varies between Rs 100 to 500, while the Jeep Safaris starts at a cost of Rs 2500.
